What is Baja Sauce? And Why You’re Going to LOVE it.
Baja sauce is a tangy, creamy sauce and delicious condiment often associated with dishes from the Baja California region of Mexico. It typically combines ingredients like mayonnaise, sour cream, lime juice, and spices. Taco Bell contributed to its widespread popularity. If you were a fan, you’ll love this copycat Taco Bell recipe.

It is most commonly beloved as Baja fish taco sauce to complement Baja fish tacos. I also love it with my spicy fish tacos and fish taco slaw.
I LOVE how it offers a rich yet bright flavor with a hint of heat.
This slightly spicy sauce not only pairs well with seafood dishes but can also be used as a dip, spread, or drizzle for street-style soft chicken tacos, cheese quesadillas, crispy baked tacos, and even juicy ground chicken burgers. The balance of creamy, tangy, and spicy elements makes it a versatile and flavorful addition to Mexican recipes and beyond.
Baja Sauce Ingredients

Before I dive in, let’s get familiar with the stars of this easy Baja sauce recipe:

While most famously as used as Baja fish taco sauce, this tasty condiment complements a huge variety of dishes. Great sauce. I add 1 fresh Jalapeños, a good bit of fresh cilantro, juice of 1 lime, 1/2 tsp of oregano, cumin and dill.
Just used thia recipe after trying so many. Hands down the best one ive used. I actually used honey vanilla greek yogurt instead of sour cream and my goodness…just try it. I like mine on the spicier side and the sweetness from the yogurt mixed with the Cayenne and cumin was so good.
P.s. I also make my own greek yogurt from scratch so that definitely deepened the flavor.
So good! I had a bit of time so I played with it a bit. I had ranch seasoned Greek yogurt on hand so I used that as a base, went liberal with the garlic, added Cajun seasoning and a few Taco Bell mild sauce packets on top of the normal seasonings and it was divine! I had to make more for the fish because I kept dipping veggie straws in it haha
This was REALLY good! I added a small amount of finely chopped cilantro and just a touch of honey.
Your baja sauce is a game-changer for fish tacos! I’ve used it multiple times and can’t get enough. I’m curious if you’ve experimented with using it in other dishes besides fish tacos. Looking for creative ideas for incorporating this delicious sauce into different recipes!
Hi Stacey,
YES! This sauce is so yummy. I love it on nachos, other kinds of tacos (like chicken tacos), mexican salads, grilled corn, I even use it for dipping sweet potato fries.
I’ve used it on all different kinds of proteins. It’s insanely good… just make it and you’ll find out!
I’ve used it on chicken and beef and pork. It’s good enough to drink… trust me. It’s kind of like Alabama White BBQ Sauce… the kind at Jim & Nick’s BBQ. So good.
