2-Ingredient Peanut Butter Fudge Ingredients

Let’s look at what each ingredient does in this Peanut Butter Fudge sweetened condensed milk recipe:

2 Ingredient Peanut Butter Fudge Ingredients on table
  • Creamy Peanut Butter: Forms the base of the fudge, providing a rich, nutty flavor.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk: Adds sweetness and a thick, creamy texture without finicky candy-making techniques.

OPTIONAL: For a firmer fudge, you can melt in 1 bag (10-12 oz) of peanut butter chips.

Variations and Substitutions

Want to personalize your peanut butter fudge with sweetened condensed milk? Here are a few easy tweaks:

  • Crunchy Peanut Butter: For a bit of texture, use crunchy peanut butter instead of creamy.
  • Chocolate Chips: Mix or melt in 2 cups chocolate chips for a chocolate peanut butter version.
  • Toppings: Sprinkle sea salt, mini chocolate chips, chopped Reese peanut butter cups or chopped nuts on top before chilling for added crunch.

Grab these Tools

Make sure you have these tools on hand for a smooth fudge-making process:

  • 8×8 Inch Baking Pan: Ideal size for setting the fudge.

How to Make 2-Ingredient Peanut Butter Fudge: An Easy Guide

This 2-Ingredient Peanut Butter Fudge recipe is a breeze to make, offering a deliciously creamy treat that’s perfect for special occasions but easy enough for a weekday craving.

Preparing the Pan

  • Line the Pan: Start by lining an 8×8 inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy fudge removal later.

Combining the Ingredients

  • Microwave Method: In a microwave-safe bowl, mix together creamy peanut butter and sweetened condensed milk. Microwave the mixture for 2 minutes at 50% power, then stir until smooth. Microwave again on high power for 1 minute and stir until it becomes thick and fudgy.
  • Stovetop Method: Alternatively, combine peanut butter and sweetened condensed milk in a medium saucepan. Heat over medium-low, stirring constantly, until the mixture is smooth and thickens.

Setting the Fudge

  • Transfer to Pan: Pour the fudge mixture into the prepared pan, spreading it out evenly.
  • Chill: Refrigerate the fudge for at least 2 hours or until it’s firm enough to slice.

Slicing and Serving

  • Cut the Fudge: Once set, lift the fudge out of the pan using the parchment paper. Cut it into squares of your desired size.
  • Serve: Enjoy the fudge as a delicious treat or a sweet snack.

5 Common Mistakes When Making Peanut Butter Fudge with Sweetened Condensed Milk

Here are the most frequent mix-ups to avoid when making 2-Ingredient Peanut Butter Fudge:

  1. Overheating the Mixture: Microwaving or heating the mixture too much can cause it to seize or become grainy.
  2. Not Stirring Enough: Failing to stir the mixture thoroughly can lead to uneven texture.
  3. Using Low-Quality Ingredients: Since there are only two ingredients, using low-quality peanut butter or sweetened condensed milk can affect the taste.
  4. Impatience with Setting: Not allowing the fudge enough time to set in the refrigerator can result in a gooey mess.
  5. Cutting While Too Warm: Trying to cut the fudge before it’s fully set can make it difficult to get clean slices.

Make Ahead and Storage

Efficiently plan and store your 2-Ingredient Peanut Butter Fudge to enjoy it at its best.

  • Storage: For best texture, keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It can last up to 2 weeks. It’s very soft at room temp.
  • Freezing Option: Freeze the fudge for up to 3 months. Wrap it well in plastic wrap and place it in an airtight container.
  • Thawing: If frozen, thaw 10 minutes at room temperature before serving.

How to Serve 2-Ingredient Peanut Butter Fudge

While chocolate fudge and other candy is best served at room temperature, this fudge has a softer texture and is best served straight from the fridge.

  • If served at room temperature, it will be soft like homemade caramel.
  • If you would like to make a peanut butter fudge that is firmer at room temperature, add 1 bag (10-12 oz) peanut butter chips or white chocolate chips with the peanut butter.

Toppings and Add-Ins for Peanut Butter Fudge

Enhance your fudge with these simple additions:

  • Chocolate Drizzle: Drizzle melted chocolate over the top for a classic chocolate-peanut butter combo.
  • Nut Toppings: Sprinkle chopped nuts like almonds or pecans on top before the fudge sets.
  • Sea Salt: A light sprinkle of sea salt can balance the sweetness and add a gourmet touch.

What is peanut butter fudge made of?

Peanut butter fudge is typically made of peanut butter and sweetened condensed milk, creating a creamy, sweet treat.

Can I use natural peanut butter for this recipe?

Using natural peanut butter can change the texture as it’s often oilier, but it can still work; you might just need to adjust the chilling time.

Lining the pan with parchment paper makes it easier to remove and cut the fudge, but you can alternatively use foil or just grease the pan.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups creamy peanut butter
  • 1 14-oz can sweetened condensed milk

OPTIONAL

  • 1 bag peanut butter or white chocolate chips for firm fudge (see notes below instructions)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Pan: Line an 9×5" inch loaf pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  • Combine Ingredients: Combine peanut butter and sweetened condensed milk in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave the mixture for 2 minutes on 50% power. Stir until smooth. It’ll still be runny. Microwave on high power for 1 minute and stir again. Now it’ll be thick and fudgy.
  • Alternatively, you can use the stovetop method: In a medium saucepan, combine the peanut butter and sweetened condensed milk. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is smooth and thickens up.
  • Transfer and Set: Scrape the mixture into the prepared pan and spread it out evenly. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until firm.
  • Slice and Serve: Lift the fudge out of the pan using the overhanging parchment paper. Cut into squares and serve cold from the fridge.
(Or see note below on how to make it firmer!)

Notes

For a Firmer Texture:
  • This is a soft, creamy fudge with the texture of a soft caramel candy. I love this texture, but it’s best served cold from the fridge. It’s very soft at room temperature.
  • To make it a firm fudge, melt in 1 bag of peanut butter chips with the other ingredients. That’s 10-12 oz, or 1 2/3 to 2 cups of chips. White chocolate chips work too!
Toppings:
  • To add a topping like sprinkles, nuts, or mini chocolate chips, sprinkle over the fudge while it’s still warm, before setting.
  • To add sea salt, add once the fudge is set or it will dissolve on top.
Sweetened Condensed Milk FAQ:
In the US, sweetened condensed milk is measured by weight and a can is 14 oz; elsewhere it’s measured by volume and it’s 300 mL. It is the same quantity inside the can.
