Key Considerations:

  • Internal Temperature: Regardless of the boiling time, always use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) for food safety.
  • Simmering vs. Rolling Boil: After bringing the water to a boil, reduce the heat to maintain a gentle simmer. A rolling boil can toughen the meat.

Jenn’s Pro Tip

  • Dark meat chicken (legs, thighs and quarters) actually becomes more tender if you let it simmer longer.
  • Cook to 180-195°F (82-90°C) and the collagen melts into gelatin, making the meat fall-apart tender rather than bouncy or chewy.

How Long to Boil Frozen Chicken:

Boiling frozen chicken requires approximately 50% longer cooking time than fresh chicken. For instance, if fresh boneless breasts take about 12-15 minutes, frozen ones will need around 20-25 minutes.

There is no better way to say it, so Thank you! Tonight or evening, I readied my ingredients for Saturday afternoon meal w and invited guest, and I will make Green Chile Chicken Enchilada Casserole. So I had some Frozen Chicken Legs (9) and did not know what to do with them except to boil and strip them…yup, I learned a lot doing it, the boiling time came off OK, but as I got them out of the big pan, and stripped them they turned a little, so, I separated the legs (and they were big) by hand, made a pile of pure white, lightly brown, an small pieces I can use in a salad…well so far, I bagged all in separate bags, and labelled them, weighed them and I grated my cheese, just waiting to do the green chile, and Wala, I am rounding third base on this one hope all turns out good! but thanks again
