The Best Chicken Street Tacos

These Chicken Street Tacos have the BEST chicken taco marinade + are grilled to juicy perfection. Everyone loves this EASY, 30-minute recipe!

Equipment

  • Grill or Grill Pan Or Cast Iron Skillet to cook the marinated chicken to perfection
  • Large Bowl for mixing the marinade and tossing the chicken
  • Sharp knife for slicing your rested, cooked chicken
  • Instant read thermometer to nail the perfect doneness (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 3 tbsp Chicken Taco Seasoning see note below
  • 1 cup chopped romaine lettuce
  • ½ red onion sliced
  • 1 jalapeño sliced
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Cilantro Lime Crema
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • Lime wedges for serving

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lime juice and taco seasoning.
  • Add the chicken thighs to the bowl and toss to coat in the marinade. Cover and marinate for 30 minutes, at room temperature or up to 24 hours in the fridge.
  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade and discard the excess marinade.
  • Grill the chicken for 4-6 minutes per side, or until cooked through with an internal temperature of 165°F.
  • Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before slicing into strips.
  • Warm the tortillas on the grill or in the microwave.
  • To assemble the tacos, place some chicken strips on each tortilla, then top with lettuce, sliced red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, and crema. Serve with lime wedges on the side.

Seasoning: My Chicken Taco Seasoning recipe is so easy with just a few simple ingredients - don't be put off by the "recipe within a recipe". It also gives the quantities to make a small batch just the right size for these tacos. Feel free to swap in regular store bought taco seasoning or chili powder if you prefer! (It doesn't have to be for chicken specifically).
