Servings: 4
- 2 black tea bags Assam, Darjeeling, or a similar strong black tea
- 1 cup boiling water
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon or 1 cinnamon stick
- ¼ tsp ground ginger or 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
- pinch ground cloves or 2 whole cloves*
- 2 cardamom pods or 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
- A pinch of ground cloves
- 1 tbsp sugar adjust to taste
- ½ cup milk any kind you prefer
- Ice cubes
Infuse Spices: In a medium pot, combine water with cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and cardamom. Heat until it reaches a boil.
Steep Tea:Once boiling, remove from heat and add tea bags. Let them steep for 5 minutes, being careful not to steep too long.
Sweeten: After steeping, squeeze the tea bags to get out all the flavor. Filter out the spices and dissolve the sugar into the warm mixture.
Cool the Tea: Allow the tea to cool down to room temperature. You can speed up this process by placing the tea in the refrigerator.
Prepare the Glass: Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
Add Milk: Pour the cooled, spiced tea over the ice. Then, add the milk.
Stir and Serve: Stir the mixture well to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness if necessary.
Enjoy: Your Iced Chai Latte is ready to enjoy!
For a creamier latte, use whole milk. You can use any non-dairy alternative you like. I recommend Barista Oat Milk.
Adjust the spices and sweetness according to your preference, and you can even add a shot of espresso for a caffeine boost. (We called that a Dirty Chai when I was a coffee house barista during university).
This Iced Chai Latte is perfect for sipping on a hot day or whenever you need a refreshing, spiced drink.
