3-Ingredient Shortcut Lasagna Hack

3 Simple Ingredients for this Easy Dinner Recipe

I’m hesitant to even share this recipe, because I don’t want you to know how easy this was if you come to my house for dinner. But, alas, I won’t gatekeep.

Lazy Lasagna Ingredients

Store-bought ravioli. I don’t know about you, but I’m always eyeing those refrigerated stuffed fresh ravioli and wondering what I’d actually make with it.

Consider this lasagna your new reason to buy them.

A spinach and ricotta or ground beef filling will give you the most classic lasagna vibe, but you can experiment! You don’t have to pre-cook it, the ravioli will cook right in the sauce.

Jarred marinara sauce. Because we are using so few ingredients, and leaning on pre-made products, quality of your ravioli and marinara sauce will go a long way.

I get locally-made ravioli easily in the refrigerated section of many shops, and I splash out a few extra dollars for good jar. That’s not to say it won’t be yummy with the standard grocery store vacuum-sealed ravioli and $2 marinara sauce, but it’s something to consider.

Grated mozzarella cheese. Pizza mozzarella makes for the best cheese pulls.

Variations and Substitutions

I love playing around with recipes. Here’s how you can tweak this one.

  • Different Ravioli: Swap spinach and ricotta cheese ravioli for ground beef, mushroom or cheese ravioli for a new flavor. Frozen ravioli works, too, you’ll just need to add to the cooking time and cover it with foil when it starts to get browl.
  • Homemade Pasta Sauce: If you have the time, a homemade marinara can elevate this dish.
  • Cheese Mix: Try a cheese mixture by blending mozzarella with parmesan cheese or pecorino for a cheesy twist.

Grab these Tools

You’ll need just a few kitchen tools to bring this dish to life.

  • Baking Dish: A 9×13″ baking pan works best for layering and even cooking.
  • Aluminum Foil: Keeps moisture in and ensures even baking.
  • Oven: Of course, to bake the lasagna to perfection.

With these ingredients, variations, and tools, you’re all set to make a delicious Lazy Lasagna that everyone will enjoy.

How to Make Lazy Lasagna

This recipe is called Lazy Lasagna and not “easy” or “quick” lasagna for a reason. You could do it in your sleep. I indicated 5 minutes of prep time, but that might be an exaggeration.

Prep Work

First things first, let’s get everything ready. Preheat your oven to 450ºF. Grab your ingredients and tools. This step sets you up for success.

Layering the Lasagna

  • Spread 1/2 cup of marinara sauce on the bottom of your baking dish.
  • Sprinkle a handful of mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
  • Arrange a layer of ravioli on top, snugly fitting them together.
  • Repeat with more sauce, cheese, and another layer of ravioli. Finish with the remaining cheese.

NOTE: No need to boil and drain the ravioli first. It’ll cook right in the liquid of the pasta sauce.

Baking the Lasagna

  • Cover the dish with foil and pop it into the oven. Bake covered for 30 minutes.
  • Then, uncover and bake for another 10-15 minutes. You’re aiming for golden, bubbly cheese and an internal temperature of 165ºF.

The slow cooker creates a rich meat sauce with deep flavors that will leave everyone asking for seconds.

Lazy Lasagna Make Ahead and Storage

This 3-Ingredient Lazy Lasagna is not just easy to make; it’s also a champ at staying delicious over time. Here’s how to handle it before and after cooking.

  • Make Ahead: Assemble the lasagna a day in advance. Keep it in the fridge, covered, until you’re ready to bake.
  • Refrigerating: Cool leftovers and store in an airtight container. They’ll keep for up to 3 days.
  • Freezing: You can freeze the baked lasagna for up to a month. Just make sure it’s well wrapped to avoid freezer burn.
  • Reheating: Thaw overnight in the fridge if frozen. Reheat in the oven at 350ºF until warmed through.

How to Serve This Lazy Lasagna Recipe

Serving this Lazy Lasagna is about bringing warmth and comfort to the table. Here are some ideas to make your meal even more satisfying.

  • Green Salad: A simple green salad with a light vinaigrette balances the richness of the lasagna. It adds freshness and color to your meal.
  • Garlic Bread: Who can resist homemade garlic bread? It’s perfect for soaking up any extra sauce. Plus, the crispy edges are a nice contrast to the soft lasagna.
  • Roasted Vegetables: Think zucchini, bell peppers, or asparagus. Roasting brings out their natural sweetness, making them a great side. I love cooking eggplant in the air fryer to serve with Italian dinners.
